[One morning late in May, a package is delivered to Bart's home, with an attached letter that reads --]
Bart,
I know you may not wish to hear from me, but I felt I would be remiss not to keep the promise I made to you several weeks ago. I've been working on a piece of magic -- an enchantment, as Dr. West calls it -- that will allow the user to avoid notice by either animals or other people. This scarf contains the strongest version of this enchantment I've yet been able to devise. When worn in a loop around your body, it will make you imperceptible to hearing, sight, or scent, although it sadly does not work against magical senses. I hope that, if you cannot accept this item as a gesture of contrition, you will at least accept it for the sake of your scientific research. And if you should feel any qualms about accepting such an item from me, Dr. West has already agreed to examine it.
I hope this is enough to set your mind somewhat at ease.
